Tenaga Nasional Berhad put a huge dent in the aspirations of Maybank and put one foot in the final of the TNB Cup when they defeated the Tigers 6-2 at the National Hockey Stadium.
And in the President's Cup TNB Thunderbolts scored a convincing 6-3 win over Ipoh City Council and look safe for a place in the final.
It is curtains for Maybank as there is no way that TNB will concede four goals without reply and for TNB, they can start planning for the final where they are likely to be playing KLHC.
Maybank suffered from some rater harsh umpiring decisions and that largely affected their game as the umpires awarded penalty corners for some good dives by the TNB players.
TNB opened scoring in the 8th minute through Izad Hakimi Jamaluddin and went 2-0 ahead with Shahril Saabah converting a penalty corner. Maybank pulled one back through an own goal as Mohd Aminuddin Mohd Zain turned the ball past S.Kumar in the TNB goal in the 21st minute.
However Firhan Ashaari scored a gem of a goal to give TNB the goal goal lead in the 27th minute before the pint sized Faiz Helmi darted in from the blind side to deflect the ball in for TNB's fourth in the 55th minute.
And Faiz put the issue beyond doubt by scoring the fifth in the 63rd minute, before Shahril scored his second and TNB's sixth four minutes from time leaving Maybank with a mountain to climb in the return leg.
Shakeel Abbasi scored in the final minute for face saving gaol for maybank in what can be considered a rout.
