Sapura survived a spirited comeback from UniKL to make the semi finals of the TNB Cup as they edged their opponents 3-2 on the night and 6-4 on aggregate at the National Hockey stadium.

And Sunday 2-30 also made it through to the President Cup semis although they were held to a 1-1 draw as their first leg emphatic win of 5-2 saw them safely through on a 6-3 aggregate.

With thunderstorm looming, the start of both the matches was delayed but once it got underway, the Sapura v UniKL tie kept the spectators at the edge of trheir seats.

UniKL were gifted their first clear chance in the 22nd minute when they worked their way to their first penalty corner of the game, however UniKL’s drag flicking ace Mohd Noor Faeez Ibrahim was not on the field to cause any problems as he was on the bench taking a breather.

The 22 year-old did get the opportunity to put his side into the lead but failed to capitalize from another two penalty corners.

Sapura’s who were playing second best to UniKL throughout the first half only found their sight on goal in the 24th minute from their first penalty corner, but Megat Azrafiq Megat Tarmizi failed to trap to push out and the chance went to waste.

In the second half, Sapura seemed to have woken up after a sluggish start and found the net in the 39th minute courtesy of Khasif Ali.

The Pakistani sent a low flick past a helpless Arief Iskandar Khamdan who was in goal for UniKL.

Sapura then doubled their lead in the 44th minute from their fourth penalty corner when Khasif netted his 17th goal of the season in similar fashion as the first.

UniKL did not bow out with a fight as they pulled level late in the game, Dedy Ariyadi Jumaidi and Mohd Noor Faeez Ibrahim found the net for UnIKL in the 60th and 62nd minute respectively, but as UniKL pushed more players forward Sapura sealed the game with a late goal in the 70th minute which was scored by Joel Samuel Van Huizen.

Sunday 2030  held Sekolah Sukan Tunku Mahkota Ismail (SSTMI) to 1-1 draw to booked their spot in the semi-finals with a 6-3 aggregate victory.

Sunday 2030 took an early lead thanks to Khairil Anuar Mohd Isa, but SSTMI rallied on to find an equalizer in the 18th minute through Mohd Zulhamizan Awang Abas.

Sunday 2030 KL will go on to face Divison One champions UiTM in the semi-finals.
